Progressive math punk trio from Stoke in the UK. These guys are gearing up for their third release which is currently streaming over on punktastic, if you like your progressive punks you defo wanna check these guys out. Beautiful mixture of the progressive and punk that doesn't fall into the trap of being overly jarring. I also recommend checking out their back catalogue too, my personal favourite being the first release because for me it encapsulates a perfect mix of classic punk sounds and the prog maths.

Family Planning - Family Planning

Dublin based trio playing tunes in the realms of math/punk/noise rock type stuff. Probably more to the noise and punk end of things over the math spectrum, but good tunes none the less. Offered up on the name the price price over their bandcamp ways. Family Planning

Ditch Tiger - Old Growth

These are a five piece from Idaho, playing what is mostly a punk and post hardcore sort of affair with decent touches of math influences to spice things up a bit. Defo been enjoying the last couple of days. Up on the bandcamp name the price well worth checking. Old Growth 

Marylin-Rambo - Izizolaop

Noise/math rock duo from France return,well did back in January with their third album. Perhaps a bit more of the metal and punk elements over their previous efforts, still mostly a math/noise affair and still sweet so good stuff. Out on the name the price over the bandcamp. Izizolaop

Ultra Dolphins - Alien Baby

From Richmond USA a trio pushing out the post-hardcore nicely crossed with math rock. This was the last release from these guys from back in 2010 and is probably more to the post hardcore side than the previous two albums which to me were more mathy, still a sweet record and a good place to start with these though my fav is probably why are you laugh as it's the most scatty to my ears.. Alien Baby

Blast Dad - Moonface

Punk duo, with a healthy lean to the mathy side with a dash of noise, nicely executed first outing. Will be good to see how these progress with time. They are offering this up for the price you name. Moonface

Odd Dates - Get Even

This is the first release for this two piece from the Grand Rapids, though readers of the blog may recall Drawing Moutains and that these guys were part of them. They are kicking out a fairly different sound from the Drawing Mountains days, still keeping up the mathy elements of the music though replacing the indie sound and progressive rock elements for more of a punk/hardcore/math type angle. I liked Drawing Mountains and I like what these guys have done from the more punk angle and with the added injection of energy. They have this up on their bandcamp for the name the price well worth checking out. Get Even

Zeus! - Opera

Not really quite sure how to describe these, but what comes to mind is something like a mathy/noise rock two piece like lightning bolt meets the sound of the locust.. Pretty much fricking sweet really. As you may well have guessed these are a two piece, they come from Italy. This ain't up for free but they are only asking for peanuts. So good. Opera

New Lands - I Wonder If It Remembers Me

New release from these guys (well last month..) enjoyed the last release from these guys (post here) and am enjoying this one too. In case you didn't catch the last one, these are a four piece out of New Orleans that bring a mix of punk and math rock and like their last release they have it up on bandcamp totally free. I Wonder If It Remembers Me.

Memento Vivere - Memento Vivere

This trio from Los Angeles are a sort of progressive punk outfit, they incorporate post punk, math rock and progressive rock. Pretty darn cool sound that chops and changes between individual styles at points while at other times is rocking out with the whole mixed together nicely. Been loving this up for a while now just keep forgetting to post! Anyway if you take the trip to bandcamp you will be rewarded not only by hearing these sweet tunes, but also by being able to download for free, no qualms. Memento Vivere.

New Lands - Space Camp

New Orleans based math rock come punk four piece. This manages to be punky, energetic and melodic, and is quite impressive considering that it was recorded live.. So this was released yesterday and they have it up on the bandcamp for all out free, whilst your there you should probably also check out their two track demo from earlier on in the year, A Woman Once A Bird, all good stuff. Wrestling - For You, Anything.

UK band, think mathed up punk with emo styled vocals. This isn't released until early November, but is already up to stream on bandcamp. Roll on November I say, can't find out much on these but I'm hoping the three tracks they have up are just a taster for November, might just be getting my hopes up though.. For You, Anything.

Saint Coltrane / Weird Wives - 7" Singles split

Saint Coltrane and Weird Wives split 7" for those of you that like some punk tunes, two real good ones for you here. Both tracks are pretty sleazy punk with Saint Coltrane's effort being the more up beat and edgy of the two. While Weird wives bring a darker/eerier more chugging sound. Both good tunes and should be checked out if you like your punk. Saint Coltrane are based in Brighton UK while Weird Wives are from Miami. You can check these tunes out on soundcloud plus two bonus tracks (one from each band) they have up there. Saint Coltrane/Weird Wives.    

Hank - The Chinaski Demos

Mathy punk three piece from Champaign in the US. Dropped this their third release yesterday, sounds like their best to date, not as much finger tapping as on the last release but the songs work better me thinks.. Anyways good tunes have a check of the bandcamp, this is up for name price along with the previous two releases. Bandcamp.

Split 7" - Bonjour/Invalids/Nai Harvest/Reno Dakota

Right so had been thinking about doing a post on Invalids and Reno Dakota for a while now, anyway turns out they are both on a four way split put out by Enjoyment Records (who are putting out Lions MNTZ on vinyl soon by the way yes!) with Bonjour and Nai Harvest so I thought what good opportunity to kill some birds with one stone and also check out some bands I hadn't previously listened to. Right so in case you don't know Reno Dakota play some math pop tunes with emo vocals and do it well the guys have put out some pretty catchy tunes to date. Invalids are a awesome math rock band think early maps and atlases inspired sweetness so good. So how how do the other two bands hold out their end of the split? Turns out pretty well, Bonjour give us some pop punk goodness while Nai Harvest play sort of punky emo and have also given a strong tune to the split. Basically real good all round release and well worth the checking out plus it's name your price on bandcamp sweet, you can also get the cool physical there like in the picture.

Echo Base - Keep Your Expectations Reasonable

Two piece emo mathy punk thing from Tallahassee, Florida. Debut Ep by these guys released on the 16th of June, some pretty cool tunes on here and is another one of those name your price bandcamp Gems.. Check it out here.

Grown By Earth - Havens

So these guys recently released their debut EP, on the 16th of August. A three piece playing some pretty rocking hardcore from Lund in Sweden. I particularly like the fourth track "misguided" anyways they have this up on their bandcamp for free download, definitely worth checking out. Link to the bandcamp. 

El Alamein - New Patterns

Some mathyish post-punk/post-hardcore four piece from Brisbane. This was released on 6th of August of this year and is definitely a good listen, has a uplifting feeling to it which is always good in this sort of music good emotive shouty singing. They have this up for name your price on bandcamp also, link here.

Aminals - The Weird Horror Of Social Relevance

Right so this little two track was released back in March this year and is good stuff if you like stuff rocking and heavy, I do.. Love the breakdowns these guys do seriously rocking shit. So these guys come from over the pond in New England and go under the tags of Death Metal, Hardcore, Metal, Punk Experimental on their bandcamp I'd go for Hardcore punk but hey who cares. They Kinda remind me of Refused in some ways which is a good thing in my book. They used to go under the name Atomic Ballroom calamity and they were good then too.. They have all their stuff up for free download on their bandcamp  which is nice of them! Really looking forward to hearing a full length under the Aminals name. Anyway check out this two track here.
