Death & The Ninth Day - Man Falls Down Well

Been waiting on this to come out a while since I checked out their first three tracks back at the start of the year, and have been pretty excited about it (to the extent I've also posted it over at plenty of swords). These guys haven't disappointed either. Sick instrumentals meshing together indie end tech metal, math rock prog to name a few things. Really good. Man Falls Down Well

Half Milk - Kept Mang

Quite liked the stuff these guys have been doing and had covered their last outing. Unfortunately it sounds like this is the last record from these as a band. Shame really as these do a good job rocking the math and post hardcore vibes with the emo vocal stylings. I'm happy to report they leave us on a high note however, bar  the odd slightly directionless moment this is pretty epic. Up for grabs on their bancamp name the price. Kept Mang  

The Milford Higgins - For No Reason

Ok so was a big fan of these guys last release Destroyer, so pretty happy to see this Californian four piece back with a new offering. This time they have still come up with the goods, sticking with the same basic premise of the math and post hardcore vein. Having said that the sound does seem to have matured somewhat, possibly shifted slightly more to the indie end of the spectrum.. Anyways some good shit, this time being released through the plastic skull records though still able to be got there on the name the price tag. For No Reason

Pilgrimage - EP

A fine four piece from Florida here, these guys have a indie sounding core that is post-hardcore and math rock based, a core that also takes on a ton of other musical styles such as post rock for instance. These do really mix up the influences well, while never loosing the flow of the music. Some of the members used to be in the band Fire Spoken by the Buffalo which you may recall were in a similar vein, what I would say is there is a definite progression from those days in which these take on board more styles and yet tie it all up better, plus the math side is just that bit notched up. Odd Dates - Get Even

This is the first release for this two piece from the Grand Rapids, though readers of the blog may recall Drawing Moutains and that these guys were part of them. They are kicking out a fairly different sound from the Drawing Mountains days, still keeping up the mathy elements of the music though replacing the indie sound and progressive rock elements for more of a punk/hardcore/math type angle. I liked Drawing Mountains and I like what these guys have done from the more punk angle and with the added injection of energy. They have this up on their bandcamp for the name the price well worth checking out. Get Even

Lions - Roosevelt

New Lions! I've been waiting on this one to come out after really enjoying MTNZ. 
This time round the guys have cranked the math up a notch, whilst keeping the emotive feel and pop sense that made the first record sweet. Glad to be like last time, left wanting more tunes. Out on their bandcamp name the price. Roosevelt

Tomorrow, St. Peter - Soft Patterns EP

So these are a Swedish band of five members and they play the math pop sort of things, indie sounding with the emoish type vocals.. think in the vein of ttng but more to the indie end of things. This is their first outing bar the demos and it's nicely done, if you nip over to their bandcamp you can grab this for the price you want. Soft Patterns EP

Satelite Twin - Tidal

Trio from Louisville, of indie meets post punk, math/prog rock awesomeness. Really good first release from these guys. Tidal

Dome Dwellers - Demos

So Dome Dwellers are a trio from Denton Texas. I would describe these guys sound as Indie based mathy progressive rock, having said that they do stay more on the indie side of things.. Anyways considering this is a first effort demo recorded in their living room, pretty good effort. They have it up for free on bandcamp if you fancy checking it out. DomeDwellersDemos.

Slim Charles - Versus Fatso Jr

These are a progressive rock outfit from New York, A four piece that have an indie type basis to their sound. They mix up in that a fair amount of math rock elements. This definitely starts out more on the indie end of things but as the songs progress through the record there are more mathy interludes and more complex structures develop plus they rock out more.. This came out back in 2011 but they recently made it name the price on bandcamp. Versus Fatso Jr.

Frank Shinobi - A Little Less More

These are a four piece from Belgium, they have been round for a few years now, this being the later of their two releases so far and came out in 2010. Anyways these guys bring a very descent mix of indie styled math rock and post hardcore defo one to check out. A Little Less More.

Fish Tank - Henry

So started a catch up of bands not previously posted, is turning into more of a collection than I first thought.. Will leave you with one more for today though.
This is something back from the beginning of the year. So Fish Tank are a three piece playing out of Kent in the UK. These guys play that math rock indie mixer, something I’m quite likely to term math pop, something I think we do quite well here in the UK and these are no exception. Bringing the right levels of complexity with catchyness and an up beat sound. You can grab this for a price you name over on the bandcamp. Henry.

10 Paces, Fire - Twenty / Twelve

Latest release from these guys, which sadly also looks like to be their last. Real shame for me best tunes I've heard so far from them. Anyway so these were a four piece from Milwaukee that bring the indie styled math rock come post rock tunes, tunes which also come with emo type vocals. They have put these two tracks up on bandcamp for name the price. Twenty / Twelve.

Turbou - *

So another Russian band, well they split this summer, but they were a two piece from Moscow. So they played the experimental indie come math rock sound, well mathy in places.. To me they kind of sound like two piece math rock that takes a fair amount of influence from say sonic youth and fugazi.. Anyway they deserve a listen, and for the effort of a trip to bandcamp you will find all sixteen tracks of this for free! Turbou - *

Drawing Mountains - Sequential Patterns

Indie sounding progressive rock, does get pretty math sounding in places where the tempo is quickened.. Basically some good tunes here, three piece from Michigan, released this back in July last year. They have this, an earlier ep and a 7in from this year up on bandcamp for free download, a band well worth checking out. Link to this here.

Faraquet - The View From This Tower

Time for an old favourite of mine. So Faraquet were a three piece indie post-hardcore band with math rock leanings from Washington D.C that were active from 1997 to 2001 when they disbanded, shame because they were really really good. For me this is their seminal piece, their only full length, it's just such a complete sounding record, everything just comes together and works so well on it. These guys have definitely influenced a lot of the modern post-hardcore and math rock bands that I enjoy today, so good. So basically if by some chance you haven't listened to these guys I strongly advise you to do, I can't see you regretting it.. The View From This Tower.

Thinguins - Demo

So after the last post was thinking about Friends, and I'm fairly sure they are no more seeing as three of the four of them are in this new band Thinguins. Playing some pretty cool indie math rock the demo is up on their bandcamp check it it's worth the listen and I'm hoping we'll here something longer pretty soon. Bandcamp.

Televangelist - Crime Wave

Got a bit of a surprise today when I listened to this mainly because I hadn't realised before that they shared members with Daytes, but yeah was expecting kind of mathy noise rock like their last ep.. OK so it's not that instead they seem to have gone more in the same direction as Daytes that kind of progressive mathy indie thing, I will say its not as fast and twiddly as Daytes which to me sound like an indie fall of troy, it's got a similar vibe to it but definitely slower and more soundy if that makes any sense? Good little ep though in my book I look forward to these guys releasing a full length sometime. So this came out on the 8th of august and is up on the name your price thing on bandcamp so you can pick it up for free, good stuff! Self-Evident - we built a fortress on short notice

Been waiting for this to come out for a while now. Was released a couple of days ago at one of their shows and the physical general release is tomorrow although you can already get the digital off their bandcamp now. So yeah three guys from Minneapolis play sort of mathy post punk indie thing pretty darn good at it too. I'd say that this from first listens is a bit more challenging than their last release endings, and I did like the slightly heavier sound on that record, but equally this album doesn't disappoint me anyway cos I do love angular guitar riffs of which there are plenty and like everything I've heard from these guys really good well thought out song structures. Anyway definitely worth the 7 dollars or in real money 4quid something good times.. Go listen.
