The Milford Higgins - Destroyer

Ok so time for something that's as totally sweet as it is also totally free, sweet. Four piece here that nicely mix up the post hardcore with math rock, with vocals that are emo to screamo types. Really digging this vibe at the mo. So these are a four piece from California released this back in July. Anyways you should probably go check out this free gem up on the bandcamp. Destroyer on bandcamp.

Night Toucher - Night Toucher

This is something I wish I had come across sooner because it's so good. progressive rock come math rock tunes. Basically old school prog vibes going on mixing with the math rock, some brilliant organ and guitar parts mixing it up together in there, works so well. These are a four piece from the Grand Rapids US, and they released this all the way back in 2006.. It's not up for free or anything like that but really do check it out still. Night Toucher Bandcamp.

Saint Coltrane / Weird Wives - 7" Singles split

Saint Coltrane and Weird Wives split 7" for those of you that like some punk tunes, two real good ones for you here. Both tracks are pretty sleazy punk with Saint Coltrane's effort being the more up beat and edgy of the two. While Weird wives bring a darker/eerier more chugging sound. Both good tunes and should be checked out if you like your punk. Saint Coltrane are based in Brighton UK while Weird Wives are from Miami. You can check these tunes out on soundcloud plus two bonus tracks (one from each band) they have up there. Saint Coltrane/Weird Wives.

Hank - The Chinaski Demos

Mathy punk three piece from Champaign in the US. Dropped this their third release yesterday, sounds like their best to date, not as much finger tapping as on the last release but the songs work better me thinks.. Anyways good tunes have a check of the bandcamp, this is up for name price along with the previous two releases. Bandcamp.

Likes Lions - First The Head, Later The Tale

I liked these guys first release, Future Colour that they put out last October, but I have been a bit slow in checking out this their latest release. Likes Lions are a five piece that come from Sheffield UK and play a catchy blend of indie styled math pop, post-rock not super mathy but good tunes none the less. So they dropped this on the 10th of Sep and on this release they seem to have nailed their own sound down more and blend their influences more coherently than the previous release, the trade off being loosing a bit of edginess that was present on the first but hey.. They have this and also their first release up on bandcamp for name your price and both are well worth checking out. Likes Lions.

My Polaris Artillery - Purgat

Math rock trio with post hardcore leanings from Denmark, sadly recently defunct, shame good tunes by these guys. So anyways they have not too long ago put this up on bandcamp their final piece. It's up for name your price too. Bandcamp.

Bearded Youth Quest - Quantumplation

Real fun sounding instrumental math rock here, five piece playing out of Brighton UK two track ep released at the start of June this year. Think sort of in the vein of You Slut! real good. This is up for name your price on bandcamp and if you take the trip there, which you should, also check out their earlier ep also really good. Bandcamp.

Omniataxia - Omniataxia

I like what these guys here are doing and it sounds like they work hard to push the envelope. Omniataxia are a two piece from Boston playing experimental metal with a strong math rock vein running through, also stepping through noise rock and jazz elements great stuff. Three tracks released from these guys at the start of August for name your price up on bandcamp, Three epic tunes that range from chaotic almost tech grind style shreds to ambient noise. Check them out up on bandcamp.

Drawing Mountains - Sequential Patterns

Indie sounding progressive rock, does get pretty math sounding in places where the tempo is quickened.. Basically some good tunes here, three piece from Michigan, released this back in July last year. They have this, an earlier ep and a 7in from this year up on bandcamp for free download, a band well worth checking out. Link to this here.

....and Upstairs, Nurses - Dece Mustings

From Birmingham UK, three piece band here, indie sounding, incorporates punk elements and is pulled together with a math rock core mixes well.. They released this Ep back in March and is definitely worth the trip over to bandcamp to check out plus they have it up for free bee. Baanddcamp.

Albert Shakespeare - Spread And Share What You Can't Bear

Cool Scottish Five piece playing some pretty decent math rock/pop tunes dropped these four tracks back at the start of August yeah good tunes and also up on bandcamp for name your price win. I like it, has pop sensibilities but manages to math it out pretty well in places. Link to the bandcamp.

Hot Dirt - The Flaying Mantis EP

Back to newer things.. This was released by Hot Dirt earlier this week and basically is some progressive/experimental funky mathy goodness. They are a four piece from Massachusetts, and they have this up on bandcamp for name your price so yeah no reason not to check them out. Bandcamp.

Q And Not U - No Kill No Beep Beep

So time again for a something a bit older. Band from Washington D.C, first of three albums by these guys and also my favourite. They were a four piece when this came out then went on as a three piece for their other two albums after and developed a more dance edged sound, but on this record we have more of a post hardcore to math pop sound really good, catchy, angular and awesome massive old favourite of mine not sure why it's not been up here sooner. If you're unfortunate enough not to have heard of or listened to this yet, bearing in mind it came out twelve years ago, do it. No kill no beep beep.

Split 7" - Bonjour/Invalids/Nai Harvest/Reno Dakota

Right so had been thinking about doing a post on Invalids and Reno Dakota for a while now, anyway turns out they are both on a four way split put out by Enjoyment Records (who are putting out Lions MNTZ on vinyl soon by the way yes!) with Bonjour and Nai Harvest so I thought what good opportunity to kill some birds with one stone and also check out some bands I hadn't previously listened to. Right so in case you don't know Reno Dakota play some math pop tunes with emo vocals and do it well the guys have put out some pretty catchy tunes to date. Invalids are a awesome math rock band think early maps and atlases inspired sweetness so good. So how how do the other two bands hold out their end of the split? Turns out pretty well, Bonjour give us some pop punk goodness while Nai Harvest play sort of punky emo and have also given a strong tune to the split. Basically real good all round release and well worth the checking out plus it's name your price on bandcamp sweet, you can also get the cool physical there like in the picture.

Hyrrokkin - Astrionics

Continuing the love affair with bands what bandcamp.. Three piece avant rock group, pretty progressive sounding and mathy on this release, is fairly free in form though but does however draw my brain in and along on a winding journey.. This came out last September and is about for name your price on their bandcamp.

Boutros Bubba - National Anthems

Dutch band playing some noise rock, math rock stuff and yeah it's pretty good.. So this came out back in 2009 and they do have a newer release than this but I prefer this one, not that its a bad release (it is very good) just like these jams more, maybe a bit faster moving on this record dunno. Kinda reminds me in some ways of Charlottefield which can't be a bad thing. Anyways a band thats definitely worth a check out, they have this and their other releases up to stream n buy on bandcamp.

Losses - Demos

This is something that got me quite excited when I first heard it. Canadian band from Vancouver playing some pretty mathy post hardcore screamo thing is really good though. They have only put out these two tracks, as far as I can tell back in August.. Kinda in the vein of Zona Mexicana, without sounding too alike plus are faster moving. Anyway been wanting to hear some stuff like this for a while I really hope they put out more tunes.. soon, really good and a demo too! Defo check this out and is on bandcamp name your price sweet. Go listen!

Weaponess - Oh.

Four piece from Scarborough playing kinda progressive funky math pop stuffs, think this is the first ep by these guys, which they have up on their bandcamp for name your price.. So this came out in June this year and contains some pretty decent jams, cool artwork too. Anyways definitely up for hearing some more tunes by these lot. Go check um out, link to their bandcamp.

Bearfoot Beware - Bass Lane

Pretty cool math pop trio from leeds, second ep from these guys which was released back in April this year. Defo worth checking out, looking forward to hearing what they would do for a full length release some time in the future. They have this and their first ep up on bandcamp for name your price, link here.

Divorce Party - Astrocongertion Oporium

Been loving this up for a while now, though I struggle to describe it so I'll just stick with mathy noise rock or proper spazzy math?.. That doesn't matter anyways it's just some good tunes, fun times. So was released in June 2011 and I hope to hear a full length from these sometime but until then you can get this free yay free from their bandcamp.

This Is Me As A Woman - Remake Your Face

Two piece from Toronto, Canada. Released this back in July and is pretty cool considering it's acoustic sound which is something I rarely go in for maybe it's because it's a bit mathy and slightly aggressive sounding, well for acoustic music, or the emotive singing. Probably the mix of the three things makes something interesting sounding I guess.. So anyway they have this up for name your price on the bandcamp so nothing to loose checking it out. Bandcamp.

Shapes - The Pasture, The Oil

Ok so this has been blogged about a fair amount in other places, but hey what hasn't? plus I do really bum the post hardcore and yes these guys are awesome and so is this record so yeah here it is.. Basically three piece from Birmingham that play, you got it awesome post hardcore yes yes. So they released this back in may of 2009 and what makes these guys even cooler is they have this up for free download on their bandcamp woo! plus it's like some of their best tunes, maybe as has been said before not their most maturest but who listens to music for maturity anyways, it rocks. They have all their other stuff up on there to buy anyway.. So yeah link to the bandcamp.

Charlottefield - What Are Friends For

These are really good, sadly they split back in 2008. This is the last thing they released before they split although they did release a couple of bits posthumously. So a four piece that came from Brighton that played noise rock, post punk stuff, they were really, really good at it too. Apparently you can't buy the physical of this because some tit burnt down the sony warehouse in London last year in the riots, cock! But you can stream and buy all their releases from their bandcamp link. Anyways this is my favourite of their stuff, and you can find it here.

Saint Names - Adventures in Space Together

Some progressive/experimental rock for you today. A few days ago I put up Mike Curtin's album which is pretty cool, anyway this is his brother Chris Curtin's band. They are also from Sparta in New Jersey and released this back in August of 2011 and it's some pretty cool tunes gets pretty jazzy and mathy in places, is basically just a really good listen. They have this up on their bandcamp for the good old name your price malarkey too, link here.
