Kusudama - JazzTv

Five piece from Minsk, bring the jazzcore which in this instance is a mix up of jazz and mathcore yes it's as interesting as it sounds. If you haven't checked these out before, now is probably a good time as it appears they have a new album in the works.. This is up on bandcamp under the name the price, while you're there you may also want to check out the single they put out in December in anticipation of the new album, which is pretty good so hoping for good things from the new release to come. My Day At The Races - Self Titled

Four piece from Tennessee, dropped this their first effort since reforming under the current line up, glad they kept at it because, well they are sweet. Defo worth a check if you like the quick paced tappy math tunes (who doesn't?). Up for name the price on band camp so happy days. Self Titled.

Loom - Angler

This is another one of those records that I should have put up ages ago! Better late than never.. Really dig this five piece from Utah, they bring some really descent post hardcore that incorporates the mathy and post rock elements and is pulled off really well, they utilise their violinist alongside the guitars brilliantly, vocals pretty spot on and the whole record is just another one of those great examples of the mix up of musical skills blended with emotion. This was their first release back in 2007 I know they had a few more releases which I will track down, but for now enjoy this one. Angler.

Unsolved Problems of Noise - L 'ombra delle Formiche

This is a pretty cool mix up of styles here, combining up stuff like jazzcore, math rock and noise rock just to mention a few. The sound moves and flips about covering the manic to spacey soundscape type moods through the album and within songs themselves, not everything all at once all the time but you get the idea right? I can't tell you too much about the band apart from (I think) they come from Italy. L 'ombra delle Formiche.

Talons - Hollow Realm

About time I got round to putting this up in here. A five piece from around the UK, Talons are probably my favourite post rock band, I haven't heard anything better on record or in live performance and I mean it. For me post rock should be what the term was originally termed for - rock instrumentation in a non rock composition.. A pretty massive scope there to incorporate a lot, something Talons do spot on. Post rock shouldn't be an excuse to try and bore any one that listens to it to death, it can be so much! These really seamless incorporate so many rock influences here into something really special. If you get a chance to see them play DO IT you will wet yourself, seriously I saw these support Toe in the summer in London, and they were the only band there that made them look a bit "ordinary" and seriously everyone that played that gig were Awesome (the line up was insane).. Bit of a rant I know but post rock is an area I feel a lot of bands could try a lot harder in and for me these personify how it should be done. So if you haven't already got on this do yourself a favour. Post rock with no dull moments, what a winner. Lamebook, Bndcmp, Hollow Realm.

Memento Vivere - Memento Vivere

This trio from Los Angeles are a sort of progressive punk outfit, they incorporate post punk, math rock and progressive rock. Pretty darn cool sound that chops and changes between individual styles at points while at other times is rocking out with the whole mixed together nicely. Been loving this up for a while now just keep forgetting to post! Anyway if you take the trip to bandcamp you will be rewarded not only by hearing these sweet tunes, but also by being able to download for free, no qualms. Memento Vivere.

Macho Muchacho - Eme Eme EP

Err right so, I saw this on the mighty Plenty of Swords a while back.. In fact I've actually seen them mentioned twice there now. So anyways for some reason passed these over which is pretty stupid, for one I normally check out and love pretty much everything from there (it's really good), but more importantly this is so so good, really tap heavy sweet mathy goodness for your ears. Easily now one of my 2012 highlights and its also totally free on bandcamp! Eme Eme EP.

Beasty - Rubber Stamp Demos

Trio from New York bring some seriously solid mathy post punk here. Really enjoying this, just a bit of shame I can only find it to stream.. and after several searches too! If anyone is the wiser please shout out. Oh well hopefully they release something soon or make this available to download. Here hoping. Rubber Stamp Demos.

Genital Hercules - Zero Gravitas

These guys split back in 2010, however, they released one last studio album at the end of December 2012. These had a sound that was one of fast paced progressive rock that at points is mathy. What I will say is that at points they only sound "average" they aren't because when it all comes together they are sweet and rock out. This is on bandcamp name the price, they also have a descent recording of their last performance there same price, also worth checking. Zero Gravitas.

You and Me and the Mountain - Club Soda EP

First record from this Dutch band, released back in December. To me these sound like a mix of alternative with post punk that is a bit on the mathy side to quite mathy in places, but that is just what I hear. Good listens though plus is up on bandcamp for name the price. Club Soda EP.

Frank Shinobi - A Little Less More

These are a four piece from Belgium, they have been round for a few years now, this being the later of their two releases so far and came out in 2010. Anyways these guys bring a very descent mix of indie styled math rock and post hardcore defo one to check out. A Little Less More.

Spaceonaut - Do You Think I Got the Goods, Princess?

From Wisconsin what I guess is a one man project (scant info) of some pretty laid back, but not dull math rock/post rock tunes, they took me by surprise a bit how good. Up for free on bandcamp just to top it off. Do You Think I Got the Goods, Princess?.

Death and the Ninth Day - TBA

So this is something to be looking out for. This is supposed to be released in April and hopefully will be on time. These are a trio from Canada that used to go under the name the Elephant Graveyard, they play what for now I'll call math rock come progressive rock. I say that because if you check out the three tunes they have up already they seem to be quite good at seamlessly incorporating lots of styles. Basically quite looking forward to hearing the rest of the album, which is supposed to be another four tunes. So these have recently split, bit of shame. They were a four piece from Florida that played a bit of mixer between math rock and post hardcore. This is the second and last record from these and was released last May. Up on bandcamp name the price worth checking plus their earlier work there too. Air Your Grievance. 

Eat The Sun - Reflection/Birthday

First off happy New Year to all!

Right these are a trio from Denver, currently sans drummer but still appear to be active. So there are these two tracks floating around by these guys, some pretty sweet math rock with a bit of a leaning to dense sounding prog at times. Anyways well worth a look, and hopefully they will acquire a drummer soon a put out some more tunes.  Reflection, Birthday.
