So these have now released a proper ep they had a demo before, which has changed it's name and lost two tracks (now on this re recorded). Still keeping with the progressive math post hardcore style, but with higher production values than the demo though still keeping the rawness, good stuff. Half Dead

Trails - Kalevela EP
Orlando based duo racking up their first EP with this. Some Jazzy math rock utilising some cool electronics and with a sound that is pretty darn uplifting, nice if you live somewhere that seems to be permanently winter like it is here.. Chill it over to bandcamp to grab this for name the price. Kalevela EP

100%chevalier - EP-IC
So these are back with their second EP, much like the last record these are putting out a mix of math and post rock. If anything I'd say this time they lean more to post rock end of the spectrum. Once again though the math influence keeps everything moving along nicely and keeps all interesting.. EP-IC

Dalstroy - Transarktik
Croatian band here offering up some broody sounding math rock come post punk tunes. Pretty epic sounding for just four tunes. They are offering this plus another tune all for free over on their bandcamp and it is worth the trip over. Transarktik
Physics House Band - Horizons / Rapture
Had a lucky escape this week from my laptop dying on me and trying to take with it my music collection! Would not have been a happy bunny..
Anyway on to business. I have been much anticipating the release of this record as have many people from the looks of things. Chances are you've already checked these guys out and are familiar with their brand of Jazz fusion with it's incorporation of math rock and prog styles in places. OK so I guess the big question is was it worth the wait and did it live up to expectations?? Well... Yes and No. Just let me elaborate on this a mo. This is a record that in places is pretty darn mind blowing, and is generally technically spot on. But I do have to say that in agreement with other honest reviewers there are filler tracks and yes to me they do seem to not fulfil their purpose of connecting the different parts of the record together, I'd probably go as far to say that they actually break the flow of the record breaking up it's energy and drag for me.
So the bottom line for me is this, the tracks that have been floating around the net a while are still awesome but every time I play this I will be making use of the skip button.. I really wanted to be blown away by this and really wanted to do a glowing review, maybe that's part of the disappointment for me. At the end of the day it is definitely worth the £4 fee and I will be checking their next release and still hold out much hope of it being mind blowing they defo have it in them it's a first pop. Abraxical Solapse is just killer btw. Horizons / Rapture

County Drop - Ink of the Octopus
New Brunswick purveyors of pop punk with a sound incorporating post hardcore with math elements with vocals being of the emo style. Do check out the last release from these too I find it has more math and post hardcore to it.. They have this and their previous effort out on the bandcamp name the prices. Ink of the Octopus

Улыбайся Ветру - Моменты
Trio hailing from St. Petersberg with a sound that's something like chaotic hardcore and post hardcore, that also makes use of some pretty mathy rhythms, whilst employing screamo type vocal style. This is their first album and they've produced something that's brimming with energy. To me they kind of remind me of Amber Daybreak in the way the Cabs are reminiscent of TTNG, sped up, heavier more chaotic.. may just be me. Anyways is good stuff, up on bandcamp thirteen tracks for name the price. Momehtbl

Member - Bipolarandshit
It's the first outing for this four piece from Kentucky, with a sound that's incorporating progressive and math rock features. The structures and guitar work do spend most of their time in the prog camp with interludes of the mathness. Intermittent vocals of the spoken to shouty variety nicely bridge the more ambient and spacey sections. My one complaint is the opening track build in is just too long but then I'm never a fan of that. Bandcamp it up for this is on offer for name the price. Bipolarandshit
Langosta - Super Nature EP
From Hartford, Connecticut these bring the Math Rock with a dance vibe that utilises the dynamics of post rock, has that crescendo effect to the music minus the drawn out build ups. This gives the tunes a overall chilling atmosphere whilst managing not to feel like they're dragging the tunes out. Nice jams and up on the bandcamp for the price of your choosing. Super Nature EP

Stalingrad - Cinc
Mallorcan solo project of Jordi Stalinigrad with a sound that's somewhere between a math rock and post hardcore cross to something more akin to mathcore though not the heavy side of it. This being the fifth release from him and coming in at 16 tracks long and up for totally free over on the bandcamp. Cinc

No Pretty Pictures - Hush Hush
Really thought I had posted on these before.. apparently not! This is the latest release from these from back in feb. These bring a mix of math rock, post hardcore with elements of post rock. Do check out their bandcamp they have a fair amount of material up there all worth checking and up either free or name the price. Hush Hush
Tintoretto - The Sound Of Someone You Love Who Is Leaving…The Sound Of Someone You Love Is Leaving….And It Doesn’t Really Matter
So a while back I posted the rest of the hero of a hundred fights stuff which included a four way split and at the time I promised to put the rest of the bands up from it, so here is one third of that. Math leaning post hardcore goodness. really long title

Postmadonna - Postmadonna
New album from this Seattle based four piece. These rock the progressive and math rock mix up. More over the place than the last record, which to me had a ton of promise, but was, well just too short. Happily though the promise from their ep is delivered on this album. Postmadonna

Brother Rutherford - Take Root
This is a solo one man affair of the post rock variety, post rock that does draw on math rock and progressive elements. The overall sound is pretty, well very chilling, but that doesn't equate to dull fortunately, and comes with that overall consistency and direction you can get with solo efforts. Out for the grand price of your choosing. Take Root
A.M. Overcast
Latest outing from these and once again some seriously good math pop, honestly some of the best around.. These are great at keeping up the math levels without ever sacrificing the pop sense. If you haven't checked these before you should do. Pellow
Blast Dad - Moonface
Punk duo, with a healthy lean to the mathy side with a dash of noise, nicely executed first outing. Will be good to see how these progress with time. They are offering this up for the price you name. Moonface

Eight Million Kami - Demo 2013
Classing these as one's to watch.. These have put out a couple of releases prior to this on bancamp, all basic recordings but brimming with ideas and clearly some skills behind them, these demos fall in the same category. Think progressive rock that incorporates math and post rock, jazz n such. Anyways one's to watch. All of their tunes are up for free on their bandcamp. Demo 2013
100% Chevalier / Pauwels - Split
100% Chevailer and Pauwels split, both bands contributing one tune each to the split. It's good to see 100% Chevailer still doing good things with the mix up of math/post rock, here's hoping we get to here a longer length release from these guys soon.
I hadn't listened to Pauwels before but they nicely hold up their end of the split bringing more of a stoner sounding math mix to the foray. Split

Pilgrimage - EP
A fine four piece from Florida here, these guys have a indie sounding core that is post-hardcore and math rock based, a core that also takes on a ton of other musical styles such as post rock for instance. These do really mix up the influences well, while never loosing the flow of the music. Some of the members used to be in the band Fire Spoken by the Buffalo which you may recall were in a similar vein, what I would say is there is a definite progression from those days in which these take on board more styles and yet tie it all up better, plus the math side is just that bit notched up. Out on the bandcamp name the price. Bandcmp Edit - the bandcamp ran out of free downloads but the band put this link up on their facebook to a fee one, nice one!
Odd Dates - Get Even
This is the first release for this two piece from the Grand Rapids, though readers of the blog may recall Drawing Moutains and that these guys were part of them. They are kicking out a fairly different sound from the Drawing Mountains days, still keeping up the mathy elements of the music though replacing the indie sound and progressive rock elements for more of a punk/hardcore/math type angle. I liked Drawing Mountains and I like what these guys have done from the more punk angle and with the added injection of energy. They have this up on their bandcamp for the name the price well worth checking out. Get Even
