The Joint Chiefs of Math - WIRES

These are a duo from Philadelphia, this is their third release. Some pretty epic math rock, very dense and complex sounding and generally pretty sweet. This was released back in July and is up on bandcamp name the price good times. WIRES.

Mahogany Hand Glider - Naked Huf

So here's hoping a good Christmas was had by all.

Something to break up the post Christmas pre new years lull period. These guys come from Leeds and this EP is their first effort. A rather descent first outing from these giving us three fine tunes of the math rock/post rock variety, with a bit of a prog rock feel running through in places. Definitely worth a look, plus this is up for free on bandcamp. Naked Huf

Hero of a Hundred Fights - The Remote, The Cold

So these were a four piece from Chicago that unfortunately disbanded back in 2001 leaving behind a couple of releases as well as this. This is probably their most complete effort and is them as a four rather than three piece, plus was recorded by Steve Albini.. These guys played a pretty cool mix of post hardcore and math rock, pretty complex and fast paced. Bonus is these days is you can pick this up on bandcamp name the price. The Remote, The Cold.

Tribeless - G.H EP

Tribeless are a duo from Austin Texas, they bring some solid math rock tunes that are interspersed with post rock style ambient type passages pretty cool. I'm hoping these guys put out some more tunes soon this was released last June.. Aynways this is out for free download over on their bandcamp. G.H EP.

14 foot 1 - Two

Second release from this trio from Providence, they bring the energetic quick moving math rock. More of a refined sound on this record which incorporates a bit more of the noise rock than the previous one which works well. Here's hoping they put out another full length sometime.Two.

Challenger - Greatest Hits

Some math rock from this band from Massachusetts, pretty straight up math most of the time and this isn't a bad thing. Descent tunes here well worth a good listen. I'm guessing the greatest hits name is a joke too.. I've given up trying to find much on these too many bands called Challenger. This is up on bandcamp on the name your price.  Greatest Hits.

Los Piedra - Antiperro

This band are from Argentina and bring us a rather pleasing sound that is comprised of math rock, post punk and stoner rock, very descent. Can't find much info on these unfortunately, they dropped this back in 2009 they also have another record previous to this and that's all I know.. Both this and the previous record are up on the bandcamp and you can decide what to pay yay. Antiperro.

Alright the Captain - SNIB

These guys are one of my favourite homegrown bands from the UK at the moment, they rock. I was unfortunate enough to miss these guys play back in September when they were supporting toe in London. I got stuck in traffic and missed their set how lame?! I heard they owned it too, not that it surprised me.
Anyway I'm waffling, These guys do rock. They hail from Derby and bring a sound mix of math rock that's bordering on the metal spectrum at times, and has the ever present use electronics and effects down a T.. All this results in something Pretty epic. SNIB.

Toast - EP

From Monroe Louisiana is a brilliant little four piece that go under the name of Toast. You gotta love some toast right? You should because they produce some very neat math rock tunes. I think these guys go under the banner of post-math rock either way they released this their first EP all the way back in August, and it's a great piece of math that's weaving, intricate and all round absorbing and good. To make it even better they have this up on bandcamp for name the price, nice. Toast EP.

Psychojet - The Sea Is Never Full

Still have some catch up posting to do but this came out the other day and is pretty sweet.

Psychojet is a four piece from Ireland, they released this their debut this Monday which is good. These bring some pretty sweet post rock tunes, the descent sort that isn't boring, which at points also leans towards the mathier end of things which is always a plus in my book anyways. All in all some good listening I will be looking forward to more tunes from these in the future. To add you can grab a digital for name the price on bandcamp definitely worth a look. The Sea Is Never Full.

Gastric Band - Party Feel

From Glasgow Scotland we have this five piece. These are great, they bring really sweet instrumental progressive rock, pretty experimental and has definite mathy elements in there, whats even greater is just how listenable it is, very. I really like the movement to this record, it rocks and never bores. To top it off they also have it out on bandcamp for you to name a price for. win. Party Feel.

Former Animals - Former Animals

So another day and some more awesome bands to add to the new noise archives, awesome bands that were inexcusably left out first time around..

Former Animals are a four piece from California, they play a most excellent combination of experimental/progressive rock and math rock, these are so good. The sound they have kind of reminds me of the tera melos back in the drugs to the dear youth days. These are definitely another entry right up there in my top ten for the year, just love some of the use of effects in this gives me the sensation of tripping yay. You can grab a copy of this from bandcamp for a price you name so total bargain. Former Animals.

Fish Tank - Henry

So started a catch up of bands not previously posted, is turning into more of a collection than I first thought.. Will leave you with one more for today though.
This is something back from the beginning of the year. So Fish Tank are a three piece playing out of Kent in the UK. These guys play that math rock indie mixer, something I’m quite likely to term math pop, something I think we do quite well here in the UK and these are no exception. Bringing the right levels of complexity with catchyness and an up beat sound. You can grab this for a price you name over on the bandcamp. Henry.

Bearcubbin'! - Get Your Heavies Out

A instrumental two piece playing out of Portland US, bring the math rock looping style with plenty of extra electronics adding to the sound. This is a bit heavier than their previous release which was a bit more battles esc but works really really well, great record really. Out on bandcamp name the price! Get Your Heavies Out.

Girlfriends - Girlfriends

Bit of one man, math pop, polyrythmic goodness from Portland US. Lots of looping going on here, with vocals that go from the arty indie wails to more of the post hardcore style shouts, pretty interesting stuff and catchy. You can grab yourself a copy of this from bandcamp for the price you name..Girlfriends.

Farther Figure - Congratulations On Your Loss

And on with the catching up.. Right some more awesomeness for you, I have no excuse for this not being up sooner. So Farther Figure are a four piece playing out of New York, they play a really great mix up of progressive rock with math rock, totally top notch stuff and is one of my favourite releases of 2012. They have this up on bandcamp for name the price, really no excuse not to check these guys out. Congratulations On Your Loss.

3dCosby - Satan's Secret

Right so once again I have been a bit on the intermittent side of updating and I apologize. Have decided to a bit of a catch up on bands that for one reason or another I didn't post about when I first noticed them.

Right first band of the catch up!

I have to start with this band as I have had this playing a lot recently and they are awesome. 3dCosby are a two piece hailing from New York and they bring some really really decent as progressive rock with definite mathy vibes running strong in places. Very much definitely worth a wee check out on the bandcamp. Satan's Secret.

10 Paces, Fire - Twenty / Twelve

Latest release from these guys, which sadly also looks like to be their last. Real shame for me best tunes I've heard so far from them. Anyway so these were a four piece from Milwaukee that bring the indie styled math rock come post rock tunes, tunes which also come with emo type vocals. They have put these two tracks up on bandcamp for name the price. Twenty / Twelve.

ChooChooShoeShoot - Playland

This four piece from Nantes bring some pretty sweet, angular post punk/noise rock with the odd math elements cropping up. Pretty good just a shame you can only get a stream of it from bandcamp. Playland.

Race To Your Face - this be e.p

Instrumental two piece from Perth Australia. Bring finger tapping, guitar looping math rock that occasionally leans to the epic and post rock side at points, though not too the extent that it gets old. this courtesy of the previously mentioned guitar tapping with the drums which are always solid. Up for name your price on bandcamp good listening. this be e.p.

Thursday, 15 November 2012

Jardín de la Croix - Ocean Cosmonauts

From Madrid Spain a four piece. Think of these guys as an instrumental band that kind of has a bit of on old school prog rock feel to them, but are kind of technically post rock/math rock in as much as they use crescendos and breaks from post rock, but kind of keep things moving along on the math rock time scale/speed. Pretty cool, over on bandcamp name the price. Ocean Cosmonauts.

Cash Crop - Roar Out the Hiss

These are a noise punk trio from California, the sound they have incorporates post punk and post hardcore with it. This is their first record that they released back in October this year. It has quite an epic feel to it, in a good way that doesn't drag parts by having the interesting changes in the right places. One of those records that draws you in. If you head over to their bandcamp you can pick this up for what you wish. Roar Out the Hiss.

Monday, 12 November 2012

Kabul Golf Club - Le Bal Du Rat Mort

Trio from Belgium here, with a range of influences including the Dillinger Escape Plan, At the Drive in, the Blood Brothers and the Jesus Lizard.. So these guys mix up those influences in what I would say was something like post hardcore come noise rock, dark sounding, interesting and energetic. This is the first EP from these guys and it is a great first effort but I do love these sort of jams and these guys rock. Le Bal Du Rat Mort, Facebook.

Feuding Fathers - Trust Me I'm a Father

Trio from Austin Texas, with a sound that is somewhere between Hella and Tera Melos, so pretty darn sweet. This is the second of two EPs they have about and is the easier of the two to get into. That said both are very much worth checking out. Both EPs are up on bandcamp, and both are up for name your price. Trust Me I'm A Father.

Isaac Bear - Colors Of This Earth

A trio from Sacramento give us some progressive/mathy styled sweet ass funk rock. This is solid as, real whole sound vocals sit well and everything. Not gonna say too much here, basically this was released yesterday and is real good deserving of some listening. Colours Of This Earth.

Wednesday, 7 November 2012

Teeph - Vietnamaste

Take math rock mix it with post metal, noise rock and grindcore and you'll end up with something that sounds like this if you're lucky.. Teeph pull off the mix of styles nicely.  This is the second album from this trio from Chico US and was released back in May this year for name your price on bandcamp. Vietnamaste.

DevonMiles - We May Lack Time, But We Don't Waste It

Group from Orleans in France, these guys give us the lighter side of post hardcore not in the pop sense but more in the indie levels of distortion as apposed to hardcore levels, they also throw in mathy elements in the shape of some of the drums and arrangements and odd mathy guitar tweaks. Wont blow your mind, but definitely worth checking out. Can get a listen of this on bandcamp, priced at what you name too. We May Lack Time, But We Don't Waste It.

A.M.Feelgood - (feelgood)

Ok so at the moment these just have two tracks from their upcoming EP, but these are worth checking out now. A four piece from Austin Texas playing energetic and intricate math rock that almost seamlessly mixes into post rock. I'm for one looking forward to the rest of the EP being put up. Whilst waiting for that though you can always go check these two out now, can be got for name your price bandcamp ways. *will post again when the rest is out. (feel good).

Turbou - *

So another Russian band, well they split this summer, but they were a two piece from Moscow. So they played the experimental indie come math rock sound, well mathy in places.. To me they kind of sound like two piece math rock that takes a fair amount of influence from say sonic youth and fugazi.. Anyway they deserve a listen, and for the effort of a trip to bandcamp you will find all sixteen tracks of this for free! Turbou - *

Yawn Hic - Weird Blue Thing

Right so been a bit on the slack side for posting lately, not good. Never fear though have been and rustled up some lovely tuneage..

Yawn Hic are a Russian band, that play on the slightly heavier side of math rock, I kind of want to say post hardcore meets math rock but I don't think that's spot on. So maybe math rock, post hardcore elements and post rock elements. I kinda hear Shapes having gone and got mashed up having a space jam.. might just be me. Maybe just go and check them out, if you do so this can be found for the price you name on bandcamp. Weird Blue Thing.

Promethean - Snow and Bodies

Right some pretty cool mathy progressive tunes here, with the odd post rock sprinklings. So these are a three piece (bassist for tour and sessions) from Richmond VA, liking this release heavier than your average math rock but not loosing the intricate nature or clouding the sound.. This was released back in April this year and is up on the bandcamp for name your price. Snow And Bodies.

Camafeo - Onyria

This band come from Argentina, the music they play is progressive rock mixed in with a fair amount of hardcore. The only downside to this record to me is the extensive interludes, there are too many, however when they are on track they are very good, dark, twisting, intricate, melodic and chaotic. Anyways fifteen tracks for name your price on bandcamp, gotta be worth a look right? Onyria.

Thursday, 25 October 2012

BBAATBIFFFS - Drink Fight Drive

A two piece consisting of bass and drums from Chicago. What I hear here is math rock meets noise rock and hardcore, you could probably apply more tags such as metal or grindcore if you wanted.. Doesn't matter I guess, what does is that these guys rock and that they do. The pair dropped this on bandcamp yesterday for the price you wanna pay, oh yay. Drink Fight Drive.

New Lands - Space Camp

New Orleans based math rock come punk four piece. This manages to be punky, energetic and melodic, and is quite impressive considering that it was recorded live.. So this was released yesterday and they have it up on the bandcamp for all out free, whilst your there you should probably also check out their two track demo from earlier on in the year, A Woman Once A Bird, all good stuff. Space Camp.

The Zero Years - March 98th, 301

Math rock trio that come from Chicago.  This Ep is the first release from this lot and is a very solid first effort that is beautifully melodic, and catchy for instrumental math, a very enjoyable four songs. Anyway it's up on bandcamp for name the price, really worth checking out. March 98th, 301.

Wednesday, 24 October 2012

Fearless Leader - Fearless Leader

Enjoying the scatty feel to this record.. Um yeah band based in Seattle I think, play progressive/math rock styled post hardcore. Quite a DIY recording sound to this I must say, but maybe that adds to the scatty and rawness of it. Anyways up for name your price over on bandcamp. Fearless Leader.

Putiferio - LovLovLov

Right so got into these guys through the awesome math centred blog that is Plenty of Swords, which if you like math rock and associated music you should definitely go check it out you will struggle to find a better source of it.

Ok so onto the band, these guys are a Italian four piece that dish out mathy post punk style tunes, and they are very good at it too. Great little album here, dark sounding, energetic and with a good level of intricacy. Do go check them out, plus this up for free on bandcamp so no reason not too I guess.. LovLovLov.

Quadrilles - Inuit EP

So here we have a London based four piece that play the math rock with the pop sense for writing catchy songs, you will hear elements of post rock in there too (the interesting type). They released their latest effort, Inuit back in August this year and have it up on bandcamp for name your price, and is very much worth the little trip over there for a check out.

On a side note I hear these guys are interested in playing up in Leeds, and checking out the math seen up there, so maybe if you're from Leeds or nearby go show them some love on facebook or something, get them playing your ways.

Wrestling - For You, Anything.

UK band, think mathed up punk with emo styled vocals. This isn't released until early November, but is already up to stream on bandcamp. Roll on November I say, can't find out much on these but I'm hoping the three tracks they have up are just a taster for November, might just be getting my hopes up though.. For You, Anything.

Astolfo Sulla Luna - Cancroregina

Italian band that make a nice mix of post rock with noise rock, with the occasional splash of mathy elements, cool stuff. Second ep by these lot released back in September and up for free on the bandcamp, you can also grab the first ep by these there for free too. Cancroregina.

Lopaka - Belafonte and There's No DSL In Hell

Australian trio here, based in Melbourne. Think progressive rock with strong math rock leanings and noise rock elements. Now these guys first release back in April is pretty darn good, recording values could be better, but it is up for name the price, and is well worth the trip to bandcamp to grab. Now their latest effort from August is just really, really good. Pretty much a staggering improvement in a tiny space of time. Now its not up for free but they ain't asking a lot for it and it is worth it i'd say, but don't take my word for it go have a listen. Belafonte, There's No DSL In Hell.

Math pop tunes from Manchester. Good blend of the catchy and intricate, some pretty cool synth lines in there, be good to here what these put out for a full length. In the mean time though check out these two tracks that they have on bandcamp for the price you name. New Hips.

Eject - Instead Of Us There Was Rustle Heard

Trio from Russia, play dark jazz, math rock tunes pretty cool stuff. Does incorporate ambient sounds a fair bit, but not in the way that makes you go sleepy times. This is I believe the third release by these guys, which came out in September. Up for name your price on the old bandcamp. Instead of us there was a rustle heard.
