One man band from Ohio. Math to prog type jams and pretty good stuff for a first effort, plus it sounds like the guy wrote and recorded this in like a month which is pretty impressive. There is the promise of more tunes if people dig this, so love being shown. I quite wanna hear what he produces given more time. Name the pricer on the bandcamp. Scintilla

Bit of a reblogg from plenty of swords, but hey this is pretty sweet. Math pop from Denmark, these bring the whole deal, well written tunes, sorted vocals. Alright The Captain - Conversational skills for the socially anxious

So nearly missed this being on holiday. Been a waiting on this one to drop for some time. Really liked Snib their last record, which I could swear I put up here but apparently not. If you don't know these guys run some sweet as jazzy math with electronics and such and in my book are one of the best UK bands about at this time.. Gizmondo - Demos

Apologies for the lack of updates lately just returned from my mates four day stag do in Tallinn followed by a music festival in Barcelona the day after and today is the first day I could write anything semi coherent after melting my brain...

When was the last time I posted something Japanese? Ages.. These guys roll with an instrumental post hardcore n math rock mixer. They're still at the demo stages but hey they're still tight and pretty darn sweet. Two demos up for grabs on the name the price front, newer demo being newer versions of two tracks of the first demo. newerdemo  

Chronoscopes - Around A Seashell Ashtray

San Jose based four piece. What I'd probably peg as a mix of math rock, post hardcore and post rock. Probably wins out to the post rock side of things. A name the pricer over bandcamps. Around A Seashell Ashtray

Marylin-Rambo - Izizolaop

Noise/math rock duo from France return,well did back in January with their third album. Perhaps a bit more of the metal and punk elements over their previous efforts, still mostly a math/noise affair and still sweet so good stuff. Out on the name the price over the bandcamp. Izizolaop

Fearless Leader - Half Dead

So these have now released a proper ep they had a demo before, which has changed it's name and lost two tracks (now on this re recorded). Still keeping with the progressive math post hardcore style, but with higher production values than the demo though still keeping the rawness, good stuff. Half Dead

Orlando based duo racking up their first EP with this. Some Jazzy math rock utilising some cool electronics and with a sound that is pretty darn uplifting, nice if you live somewhere that seems to be permanently winter like it is here..  Chill it over to bandcamp to grab this for name the price. So these are back with their second EP, much like the last record these are putting out a mix of math and post rock. If anything I'd say this time they lean more to post rock end of the spectrum. Once again though the math influence keeps everything moving along nicely and keeps all interesting.. EP-IC

Dalstroy - Transarktik

Croatian band here offering up some broody sounding math rock come post punk tunes. Pretty epic sounding for just four tunes. They are offering this plus another tune all for free over on their bandcamp and it is worth the trip over.  Transarktik

Physics House Band - Horizons / Rapture

Had a lucky escape this week from my laptop dying on me and trying to take with it my music collection! Would not have been a happy bunny..

Anyway on to business. I have been much anticipating the release of this record as have many people from the looks of things. Chances are you've already checked these guys out and are familiar with their brand of Jazz fusion with it's incorporation of math rock and prog styles in places. OK so I guess the big question is was it worth the wait and did it live up to expectations?? Well... Yes and No. Just let me elaborate on this a mo. This is a record that in places is pretty darn mind blowing, and is generally technically spot on. But I do have to say that in agreement with other honest reviewers there are filler tracks and yes to me they do seem to not fulfil their purpose of connecting the different parts of the record together, I'd probably go as far to say that they actually break the flow of the record breaking up it's energy and drag for me.

So the bottom line for me is this, the tracks that have been floating around the net a while are still awesome but every time I play this I will be making use of the skip button.. I really wanted to be blown away by this and really wanted to do a glowing review, maybe that's part of the disappointment for me. At the end of the day it is definitely  worth the £4 fee and I will be checking their next release and still hold out much hope of it being mind blowing they defo have it in them it's a first pop. County Drop - Ink of the Octopus

New Brunswick purveyors of pop punk with a sound incorporating post hardcore with math elements with vocals being of the emo style. Do check out the last release from these too I find it has more math and post hardcore to it.. They have this and their previous effort out on the bandcamp name the prices. Ink of the Octopus
